Byfleet Recreation Ground Play Area -

Published for 22 Feb 2010

Thank you to all who took part in the consultation on the play area refurbishment at Byfleet Recreation Ground.

Following a review of all of the responses received, the Council has decided to proceed with Option 2 (in which the paddling pool is converted to a sand pit) with some small modifications in line with comments received.

We received 188 responses in total, with 163 favouring Option 2. The main reasons given for preferring this scheme were that it provided more play opportunities for children of all ages and could be used all year round.

The modifications to the original scheme are:

  • Provision of additional inward-facing seating both inside and outside the play area.

  • Addition of a slide that will be attached to the playhouse.

  • Provision of a second set of cradle swings for toddlers.

  • The jungle rope swing will be replaced with traditional flat swings.

  • The existing kiddie cabin will be retained within the play area along with the existing spring items to offer some more traditional play opportunities for toddlers.

It is the intention to inspect and maintain the sand pit on a daily basis during the main periods of use in the summer. At other times the sand pit will be inspected and maintained at least once a week.

Work on refurbishment is programmed to commence at the beginning of March and weather permitting, we hope to have the play area ready for use by Easter. To see a plan of the final design please follow the link below.

We will be holding a launch event once the play area is complete though the date and time is yet to be confirmed. Please check this page for further details coming soon.
