West Byfleet Recreation Ground Play Area -

Published: 29 September 2010

In 2010, Woking Borough Council, with its partner, Russell Leisure Limited will be improving play provision at West Byfleet Recreation Ground by replacing some of the older equipment in the play area and adding an additional multi-play unit just outside the existing play area.

Following a period of public consultation and an on-site meeting on Tue 13th July 2010,
letters have been set to respondents as follows

West Byfleet Recreation Ground Play Area

Thank you for taking part in the consultation on the play area refurbishment at West Byfleet Recreation Ground. Following a review of all of the responses received, the Council has decided to proceed with an amended scheme based on comments received. We received 53 responses in total with 21 in favour of the scheme and 29 in favour but with some desired changes. Of these changes the most common responses we received were to increase the overall size of the play area and for all items to be within a fenced area.

Based on these comments we have made the following modifications to the scheme:

  • The play area will be extended to include a new climbing unit (different from the one in the proposed scheme), a basket swing, flat swings and a zip-wire

  • The whole play area including the extension will be fenced

  • The existing toddler multiplay unit will be replaced with a new steel toddler multiplay unit rather than the timber toddler multiplay that was proposed in the draft scheme

  • The existing flat swings will be changed to cradle swings

  • Minor repairs to existing surface to remove trip hazards where possible

  • Provision of additional inward-facing seating inside the play area

An image of the final design is shown as a thumbnail below and in full on a linked page.
Works are programmed to commence late November and weather permitting, should be completed in four to five weeks.
